HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - A man is behind bars after police said they found an illegal machine gun conversion device during a traffic stop.

According to the Hattiesburg Police Department, a machine gun conversion device is designed to illegally modify a firearm into a fully automatic weapon.

Officers confiscated one of these devices during a traffic stop on Saturday, Sept. 6, along U.S. Highway 49. They also arrested 20-year-old William Decorius Beverly, Jr.

Beverly faces one count of prohibit the manufacture and possession of machine gun conversion devices.

During his first court appearance on Monday, Beverly received a $20,000 bond for the charge.

However, Beverly was already out on a felony bond from shooting into a home in February 2024 . That bond was revoked.
