As far as historic tours go, this one’s a bargain. The fourth annual Doors Open California kicks off this weekend and offers access to more than 75 sites up and down the Golden State for $20 per person.

The California Preservation Foundation is challenging fans of historic architecture, design and cultural heritage to visit as many of the sites as they can starting Sept. 6 and running weekends through the month.

For some locations, this is the only time the public can go behind-the-scenes and see museum vaults and otherwise-closed buildings.
