BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The city of Burlington wants to make it easier for drivers to find out how much it costs to park in private lots. They approved the passage of a rule that would require the owners of privately owned lots to make their pricing clear.

If you’ve parked around Burlington before, you may have fallen for a higher hourly rate. Privately owned lots are allowed to charge whatever they want.

Sally Bullard is in Vermont visiting family from Atlanta, where she says public parking signs mean it’s free. Here, she had to pay $10 an hour.

“As a tourist and someone that wanted to come here and spend some time and see the University of Vermont and all of this... that’s a lot of money... That’s money out of your vacation budget and everything else, and I don’t think it’s worth it.
