A man is in a life-threatening condition after being shot by police who were responding to a reported fire in Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to a house on Cabanda Street in Wynnum West about 9:20am following reports of a fire.

"Upon arrival, it is believed an interaction occurred between the man and officers, as a result he was shot by police," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

"No police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident."

Medical assistance was immediately rendered and the man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

Police say there is no risk to the safety of the public.

A crime scene has been declared and investigations are ongoing.
