HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) -- After breaking Wayne Gretzky's career goal-scoring record last season, Alex Ovechkin said he had no plans to retire.

"Yeah, I just packed my stuff," Ovechkin said during a press conference two days after the Washington Capitals exited the Stanley Cup playoffs in a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. "I'm going to Hershey."

At the time, the Hershey Bears -- the Capitals' AHL affiliate -- were in the middle of chasing a third-consecutive Calder Cup in the AHL playoffs.

Ovechkin, of course, was only joking. The Bears went on to fall to the Charlotte Checkers less than a week later, dashing hopes of a three-peat. A little help from Ovie surely would've helped.
