IZARD COUNTY, Ark. — Grant Hardin, an Arkansas inmate who escaped from the North Central Unit in May, has asked the court to suppress statements he made to federal agents and other officials after his capture, according to court records.

Hardin was serving sentences for murder and rape in the Calico Rock prison when he was reportedly let out of a secure gate on May 25 by two prison employees who were later fired . Officials said Hardin created a makeshift disguise using items he obtained in the prison.

After nearly two weeks on the run, Hardin was arrested just over a mile from the prison by Arkansas law enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol. A Department of Corrections critical incident report on the escape said Hardin admitted he had been planning the escape for six months, preparing
