A local Community Action Agency serving Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella and Montcalm has been awarded $100,000 from a Consumers Energy Foundation People Award.

According to a community announcement, the funds will support a new initiative at EightCAP: Household Goods for Rehousing Success.

The initiative aims to provide essential household items to individuals and families exiting homelessness throughout the region.

The project will offer "Fresh Start Kits," which include basic household goods such as bedding, cookware, cleaning supplies, towels and hygiene items. The kits are intended to help transform empty units into livable homes.
