The traditions and visions of two area churches are being partnered during the weekend of September 13 and 14 in a pair of worship services.

Festeburg, a men’s choral group from Wartburg College, will highlight the annual commemorative worship service, “Vespers at Vernon,” at the former Vernon Lutheran Church in rural Dows Saturday, Sept. 13.

Once a year, the doors of Vernon, an ELCA congregation that was decommissioned in 2010, are opened to welcome former members, neighbors and new friends to the celebration of rural churches everywhere.

This year’s service will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at 3205 Taylor Avenue, Dows, and will include music and messages from the student-led ensemble along with a message from the Rev. Reed Pedersen of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, IA.
