An elderly man was out on his daily walk through Massapequa Park in New York when something unusual caught his attention. What he heard wasn’t the usual birdsong or rustle of leaves. Instead, a peculiar noise echoed through the trees, loud and strange.

The sound reminded him of something prehistoric, almost like a dinosaur’s cry.

Curious and slightly unsettled, the man followed the sound. Soon, he stumbled upon a shocking sight, a large bird trapped, clearly injured, and crying out in distress.

A Sound Too Strange To Ignore

Wedged between thick vines and sharp thorns was a great blue heron, one of the largest wading birds in North and Central America.

The poor bird was tangled, unable to free himself, and clearly suffering.

Moved by compassion, the man quickly reached out for help.
