FRYEBURG, Maine (WMTW) - One of the two runways at the Eastern Slope Regional Airport in Fryeburg will close on Sept. 10 as part of the ongoing project to rebuild the taxiways and extend the runway .

Work has been ongoing for months at the airport, where traffic has increased in recent years with larger planes arriving.

Runway 32 is currently 4,200 feet long, but when it closes this week, crews will be paving the extension to make the runway 5,000 feet long, allowing it to safely accommodate larger planes.

While the runway is closed, new runway and taxiway lighting will be installed and completed along with a new REIL system (Runway End Identifier Lights).
