WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — On Monday night, the Forsyth County Association of Educators met with state lawmakers, pushing for millions in funding to help the district weather a financial crisis that has resulted in widespread job cuts.

Educators are asking lawmakers to pass a mini-budget that would provide $18 million to help retain employees who have been laid off or demoted.

But lawmakers offered little optimism.

State Rep. Amber Baker said, “There are 120 LEAs, 119 have successfully… There is no interest right now.”

The Forsyth County Board of Education is scheduled to meet again tomorrow, where Interim Superintendent Catty Moore is expected to provide an update on the district’s financial situation.
