LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The City of Lansing has accepted its portion of several opioid crisis settlements.
While the combined total of the settlements exceeds $8 billion, it is not yet clear how much Lansing will receive.
The largest share of the funds comes from the Sackler family and their company, Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of OxyContin, a prescription opioid widely blamed for playing a major role in the rise of opioid addiction.
Members of the Lansing City Council say accepting the settlements is a critical first step in ensuring that communities receive the funding they need to support individuals struggling with opioid addiction.
Once the settlements are finalized, the city will pass another set of resolutions to amend its budget and formally accept the funds.
