DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — A teacher within the Decatur City School System now has a new title, HERO!
This past weekend, Christy Williams, a math coach at Eastwood Elementary School, was at a birthday pool party with her daughter and several Eastwood students.
While everyone was heading inside to eat, a young child drifted into the deep end of the pool and started to struggle.
Williams quickly jumped into the pool fully clothed, after noticing that the child was drowning and in distress. Williams was then able to bring the child up from the bottom of the pool and bring her to the side of the pool safely.
Other parents at the party immediately began chest compressions which led to the child coughing up water before being transported to a hospital by an ambulance.
