CHICAGO — Authorities are conducting an arson investigation on Tuesday morning after a fire at a South Side apartment complex left one person hospitalized and another displaced.

According to Chicago police, the blaze erupted just after 1 a.m. at a residential apartment building in the 300 block of East 68th Street, in Grand Crossing.

Crews were called to the scene and were able to stamp out the flames.

Police say a woman was later taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation was the only person injured.

A second woman was displaced as a result of the fire.

Authorities say an arson investigation is currently underway, though it is unclear what exactly sparked the fire.
