Harvey Berger, the co-founder and former longtime CEO of Ariad Pharmaceuticals, is the new chairman and chief executive of Arena BioWorks, according to a Monday announcement.

But Berger has already been influencing the strategy behind-the-scenes at the Cambridge biomedical research institute.
