ROYAL OAK, MI - She has a name! Meet Nakili, (pronounced (Nah-key-lee), which means “a copy” or “to copy” in Swahili. She was recently born at the Detroit Zoo .
Nakili was born to 34-year old Nyani, her first baby, on July 4. Baby Nakili is now two months old and weighs around five pounds.
Zoo staff posted an update on her on Facebook announcing her name and adding that she is nursing well, hitting her milestones and has begun spending time in the outdoor habitat with her mother.
Zoo staff adds that as she grows, baby Nakili will also learn to copy her mom’s behaviors, which will ultimately allow her to thrive in the chimpanzee troop.
