A school bus involved in crash while carrying an Oklahoma softball team is seen early Tuesday, Sep. 9, 2025, in Union City, Oklahoma.

A school bus carrying an Oklahoma softball team rolled over on a highway and crashed, ejecting some passengers and injuring eight people on Sept. 8, officials said.

Three adults and five children were among the injured, six of which were in critical condition, Lt. Mark Southall, public information officer for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, told the Oklahoman, part of the USA TODAY Network. The injured were being treated at Oklahoma City area hospitals.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 152 near the town of Minco, Oklahoma, about 40 miles from Oklahoma City, the Oklahoman reported. The softball team, part of Minco Public Schools, was on its way back from a game in southwest Oklahoma, the evening of Sept. 8. Part of the highway was closed after the crash.

"May God give healing and comfort to each of the players and passengers, their families, and the entire community," Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford said in a post to social media.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, Southall told the Oklahoman. It wasn't clear if the bus had seatbelts or if passengers were wearing them, he said. Most Oklahoma school buses do not have them, and a bill that would have required them on all new school buses died in committee earlier this year, the outlet reported.

Minco schools were closed Tuesday, Superintendent Kevin Sims said.

"Please keep these student-athletes, coaches, and their families in your prayers," Sims said.
