A developer has been blocked from knocking down a warehouse in order to build 22 new homes on the edge of Meldreth. Talbot Homes had appealed to the planning inspectorate to try and overturn a previous decision to refuse planning permission for the homes.

However, the planning inspector who assessed the plans said they believed the development would have a “harmful effect on the character and appearance of the area”. The plans originally submitted to South Cambridgeshire District Council had asked for permission to knock down the warehouse at Station Yard, in Meldreth, in order to build 22 new homes at the site.

The homes were proposed to range in size from two-bedrooms up to four-bedrooms. One of the homes was proposed to be made available as affordable housing. The developer said the
