IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — An Iredell County traffic stop led to the discovery of narcotics and multiple catalytic converters, resulting in felony charges against a Rowan County man.
According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, Deputy R. Ball with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team stopped a driver on Sept. 3 in Statesville. Sergeant N. Hodges and his K-9 partner, Levi, responded to assist with the traffic stop. Levi alerted deputies to narcotics inside the vehicle, where deputies uncovered 25.5 alprazolam pills.
During the search, Deputy Ball also found 11 catalytic converters in the trunk. The driver, later identified as Coty Sherrill Speight, told deputies he owned a recycling business in Rowan County and produced limited paperwork to support the claim
