CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Weather Impact Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich received a big surprise this week when he was awarded for his hard work when Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina.

The National Weather Association recognized Panovich with its Special Appreciation Award which its been bestowing since the mid-1990s to individuals who have "unique contributions relating to the field of meteorology." This is Panovich's first time winning this award.

The organization pointed to Panovich's constant updates on-air and online during the storm as well as when recovery efforts were necessary.
