David Simon is right to call out Republican lawmakers for citing “The Wire” as justification for sending National Guard troops to Baltimore (“ David Simon: Don’t use ‘The Wire’ to justify sending troops to Baltimore ,” Sept. 8). Nevertheless, it is ironic for Simon to invoke “The Wire” for the benefit of Baltimore City.

Simon was instrumental in the production and broadcasting of two TV shows that did irreparable harm to the reputation of Baltimore: “Homicide: Life on the Street” from 1993 to 1999 and “The Wire” from 2002 to 2008. I know because, during these years when I was working with business attorneys and executives from across the United States, I heard their exclamations of amazement that my family and I lived in Baltimore City.
