Andrew Snyder was working at Fitness Sports in Coralville in March of 2024 when one of his heroes walked in.
Mike Jay, a longtime public-address announcer in the track and field world and the co-founder of one of the sport’s most unique foundations, strolled through the doors to the amazement of Snyder.
“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s the real Mike Jay,’” Snyder said.
Snyder, a native Iowan, had always been a fan of Jay’s work calling the state meet and the Drake Relays. He always thought Jay’s work with the Track Guy Foundation, helping track and field and cross country runners for years, had gone mostly unnoticed. Snyder wanted to help.
