The spectre of the late sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein haunts the circle of those who kept his acquaintance – a group whose otherwise keen antennae and intelligence should have warned them that his domestic set-up had undertones of sleaze they either accepted, or turned a knowing blind eye towards.
