The Montgomery County Historical Commission dedicated a county historical marker to Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church on Sept. 7, MCHC Chair Larry Foerster confirmed.
The church, established in September 1865, is one of the earliest African American churches in Montgomery County formed after the Civil War, Foerster said. During the dedication ceremony, Montgomery City Council member Cheryl Fox read a city proclamation honoring the church and there was also a proclamation from Gov. Greg Abbott.
