CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Firefighters from Cedar Rapids, Fairfax, Ely and Mount Vernon all responded to help put out a large fire involving a tree debris pile.

Before 11:45 a.m. Tuesday firefighters responded to Beverly Park, just off of Edgewood Road Southwest, south of U.S. Highway 30. The city of Cedar Rapids has been using that area as a place to shred trees and make compost.

Cedar Rapids Fire says they don’t know at this time how it started, but a fire spread to a large debris pile of trees and to some of the surrounding area.

The fire departments used their tanker trucks to fill up from a nearby fire hydrant, then move the water closer to the flames so they had an easier time putting out the fire.

There is no traffic impact to the area.
