MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa ( KCCI ) - Iowa public health officials say the number of Legionnaires’ disease cases in Marshall County has risen to 34 since August, KCCI reports.
State officials reported an increase in Legionnaires’ disease cases from 30 on Monday to 34 on Tuesday.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services first reported on the illness in the region last week. A retired Catholic priest is the only confirmed death so far.
According to his obituary, 82-year-old Reverend Bernard “Bernie” Grady worked for the Archdiocese of Dubuque. He died on August 29.
Last week, Marshalltown Water Works said the town’s treated drinking water was not the source of the Legionella bacteria which causes the disease.
Officials are stressing the need for people to keep their home and busines
