WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced a settlement with Norfolk Southern Corporation and Norfolk Southern Railway Company to resolve allegations that the company delayed Amtrak trains in violation of federal law.

The lawsuit, filed in 2024, accused Norfolk Southern of failing to give Amtrak’s Crescent Route passenger trains priority over freight traffic, as required under federal law.

The Crescent Route is a 1,377-mile line operated by Amtrak that connects 33 cities and towns from Virginia to Louisiana, including South Carolina, with Norfolk Southern controlling 1,140 miles of the line.
