A Los Fresnos man was sentenced to jail for his involvement in a 2014 murder that turned cold until his wife called police with new information a few years ago.
Alberto Davila, 54, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for the death of 29-year-old Daniel Salazar Burnias, court records show. He pleaded guilty to murder on Aug. 18.
At around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 2, 2014, police responded to a call regarding a one-vehicle crash in the 3600 block of East I-2 in Weslaco. It was there that they found Burnias dead inside his vehicle.
Investigators found various bullet holes in the vehicle and gunshot wounds on Burnias’ body. They also found a 40mm handgun at the scene.
The case was considered cold for years until Davila’s wife, Karen Sanchez Landeros, called Los Fresnos police.
