PHILADELPHIA — The Mets traded for veteran center fielder Cedric Mullins at the deadline in desperate need of offense at that position.
That hasn’t been the case.
After his 0-for-2 effort in Monday’s 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies , Mullins 0 for his last 26. He hasn’t recorded a hit in 16 days, a ninth-inning single against the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 24.
With center fielder Jose Siri (left tibia fracture) “getting close” to returning, according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, could Mullins be feeling some pressure to perform?
“I think I’m just trying to focus on contributing to a win,” Mullins said. “I think that could be adding a little pressure, but it comes with the territory. Working diligently each day to get better.”
