Two people were hospitalized on Monday after a propane tank exploded in Luzerne County.

According to WNEP, the 20-pound propane tank exploded a little before 2 p.m. in the yard of a home located in the 100 block of Main Street in Salem Township

Two people were injured in the explosion and flown to a nearby hospital for burn injuries. Their current condition is unknown.

Police said the residents had modified their riding mower, taking off the blade guard to create a bigger blade. While mowing the lawn, the exposed blade hit the tank, which was in the yard.

The Salem Township Fire Department said it took about an hour to put the fire out.
