GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Cleared of “fake elector” allegations by a judge, Wyoming Mayor Kent Vanderwood believes the criminal case was nothing more than a “partisan ploy.”
Vanderwood was among 15 people who had charges against them dismissed Tuesday, Sept. 9 by a Lansing judge.
They were accused of acting as “fake electors” in the 2020 election by signing documents to certify electoral votes for President Donald Trump.
A judge determined there was no criminal intent. Attorneys for the defendants claimed the document was only intended to be used in the event Trump overturned his loss to Joe Biden.
“This entire episode has now been unmasked for what it always was: a partisan ploy to score political points,” Vanderwood said in a written statement following the decision.
