COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Safeway is closing a dozen stores in its “Mountain West” area, 10 of which are in Colorado, on or before November 7, according to a Safeway spokesperson.

11 News reached out to a regional spokesperson for the company after La Junta’s city manager Michael Hart shared to Facebook Tuesday morning that the city’s Safeway was closing, acknowledging the employees and families feeling the brunt of the move. He said the city would be working alongside its workforce centers and La Junta Economic Development to assist those workers and families in the coming weeks.
