SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Scientists, cancer survivors and professional surfers will be coming together for an annual tradition in La Jolla that strives to advance cancer research.
The annual Legends of Surfing Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego's Moores Cancer Center, has raised $12 million for cancer research since its inception in 1994.
For the very first time, the event this year will be expanded to two days and renamed "Legends of Science and Surfing."
This year's fundraising event will begin with a science symposium at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa on Friday, Sept. 12.
The symposium, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature panel discussions and sessions led by experts in various fields, including medicine, bioengineering, genetics and more. Topics include the
