Lisa O’Rourke misses out on World medal after narrow quarter-final defeat

Lisa O'Rourke of Ireland reacts as Lekeisha Pergoliti of Australia is declared victorious

Lisa O’Rourke is out of the World Boxing Championships following a narrow split decision loss to the 70kg number one seed from Australia Lekeisha Pergoliti.

The bout was highly physical and both fighters competed at breakneck pace, and unfortunately for the Roscommon native, the judges scored it a 3-2 split decision in favour of the Aussie.

Dean Clancy takes on Georgia's Lasha Guruli in the last 16 later this evening. Guruli is the 65kg Paris Olympics bronze medalist, and a multiple medalist at World and European level.

Following Clancy, Brian Kennedy steps between the ropes in his 85kg bout.
