The mayor of Maplewood criticized ICE for arresting two men in the Essex County township on Monday morning.

Nancy Adams said she had just returned from a trip to St. Louis when she learned three ICE agents in unmarked vehicles apprehended the two men.

Adams described the arrests as “an aggressive Trump-era tactic meant to sow fear.

“This is not who we are,” she continued. “Our town stands for dignity, safety, and belonging—not intimidation. Our police were not notified, nor do we cooperate with ICE. I will be demanding accountability from state and federal leaders."

ICE didn’t immediately respond to a request for information.
