White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt fiercely defended President Donald Trump after the release of a bawdy letter that was purportedly sent to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump is facing fresh scrutiny after congressional Democrats released a birthday letter to Epstein that was apparently signed by Trump for the disgraced financier’s 50th birthday in 2003. Trump has denied writing the letter, which he has said is “fake.”

When asked if the president cared about the victims of Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme, Leavitt defended Trump’s stance on the case while accusing Democrats of orchestrating a “hoax.”
