Second-year cornerback DJ James was one of the Patriots’ breakout performers this preseason, earning a spot on the team’s initial 53-man roster after spending much of last year on the practice squad.

But, now, the Patriots are moving on from the 2024 sixth-round pick, according to a report from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

“The #Patriots are waiving CB D.J. James today, per his agents Joe DiBenedetto and Andy Simms,” Pelissero wrote on X. “A sixth-round pick by Seattle last year, James spent most of his rookie season with New England and was a training camp star this summer. Now, he’s headed to waivers.”
