A 16-year-old who deputies said stabbed to death a boy at their Broward County group foster home is being charged as an adult in Broward County court.

Ruben Whitworth’s case was transferred to adult court, and he was taken to the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Paul Rein Detention Facility on Friday. His arraignment was held Tuesday morning, court records show. He is facing one count of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

Deputies were called on Aug. 25 to the group home in the 5400 block of Northeast Third Avenue in Oakland Park after Whitworth allegedly stabbed Jordan Dowdy, 14, at least five times, according to a probable cause affidavit.
