DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Darlington County authorities are investigating an undisclosed incident at an historic Black church that was destroyed in a July fire.

Darlington County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jordyn Jefferson said no further details could be immediately provided.

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church burned down on July 19 in what was described by a source close to the situation as arson.

Established in 1869, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church is one of Darlington County’s oldest Black congregations. Its Pocket Road building was constructed in 1910.

The Darlington County Fire District, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and other units including the West Florence Fire Department all responded around 4 p.m. Authorities said Saturday the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
