Police say a cyclist was left with life-altering injuries as they continue to investigate a crash in northeast Calgary on Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of 36 Street and 20 Avenue NE around 3:15 p.m. for reports of a collision.

Calgary police say a 2014 GMC cube van was heading northbound on 36 Street NE at the same time that a woman riding an e-bike was travelling eastbound on 20 Avenue NE.

The van and the e-bike collided in the intersection.

The cyclist, a 59-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital with serious and life-altering injuries. The driver, a 67-year-old man, was not hurt and remained at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, but they do not believe speed or impairment played a factor.
