A young woman has been charged with second-degree murder following a deadly pedestrian crash east of Calgary over the weekend.

Emergency crews were called to a commercial area in Strathmore just south of the Trans-Canada Highway, around 9 p.m. Sunday, for reports of a pedestrian-involved collision.

Strathmore RCMP say a black Dodge Ram struck a man near Pine Road.

The victim, 24-year-old Dante Waterchief of Siksika Nation, was rushed to a Calgary hospital, where he eventually died.

The Mounties’ Major Crime Unit took over the investigation and has charged 22-year-old Kyera Oldwoman of Siksika with second-degree murder. The accused remains in custody and will appear in a Siksika courtroom on Thursday.
