A former Red Deer County gravel pit could become a new manufactured home park.
County council approved first reading of a zoning application to change a 61-acre site off Lantern Street and east of Highway 2A to Manufactured Home Park District from Direct Control District.
The site was a former sand and gravel pit and is surrounded by undeveloped land to the north and south. Proform Construction is located to the east.
The manufactured home park is expected to be built in phases. The first phase will have 83 units with full build-out comprised of 267 lots.
Planning documents, such as the Waskasoo Local Area Structure Plan, had identified the site for manufactured or single-family homes.
Coun. Christine Moore welcomed the development.
