During Apple’s announcement Tuesday heralding its new tech lineup, “Toledo, Ohio” flashed across the screen, and resident Derick Gant made a cameo in a segment promoting the brand’s new watches and their lifesaving features.
Mr. Gant suffered a stroke last year that was captured on his home surveillance camera. After ending his second workout of the day by jumping rope, his legs began to shake and gave out, causing him to collapse on the concrete driveway.
That story could have had a tragic outcome, but Mr. Gant said the Apple Watch he was wearing called emergency services on his behalf, and that medical crews arrived at his home within minutes — a response time that’s crucial to preventing permanent damage from a stroke.
“I live alone, and if my Apple Watch hadn’t called emergency serv
