Work is underway on a new water tower in Benton Township.

The township last year was awarded a $20 million state grant for the construction of two new towers, one to be located off Zoschke Road, and the other off Euclid Road. Supervisor Cathy Yates tells us crews just constructed the base for the Euclid tower this week.

So, why did the township need new water towers?

“ Growing demand in the township and the suburb areas because we supply water to more than Benton Charter,” Yates said. “We do Sodus and some other areas.”

The Euclid tower will be 1 million gallons, while the other tower will be 500,000. Yates said the new one under construction is actually smaller than the tower it’s replacing, but it’s all about better engineering.
