SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Governor Greg Abbott recently recognized 33 Texas institutions of higher education with the 2025 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition, honoring schools that provide exceptional support to student veterans and military-connected students. Among the gold-level winners was Angelo State University, recognized for the way it supports veterans, their families, and military-connected students—not just in the classroom, but across campus.

“The Vera award basically is recognition for the university, not just the Vet Center. So, it's the culmination of what our academic affairs people do, what our professors do, what our services people do, the whole university,” said Phillip Nichelson Jr., Director of Affiliated Military & Veteran Services at Angelo
