A Red Deer man is facing numerous charges including impaired driving after a Sunday afternoon crash on Gaetz Avenue.

RCMP said they got a call about 12:25 p.m. that a vehicle had hit a crosswalk pole near Gaetz Avenue and 36th Street.

When police arrived the driver had already fled.

Police were notified later that a man matching a description provided by witnesses had arrived at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for treatment. A 30-year-old suspect was arrested there and is facing numerous charges.

Charges are pending for obstruction, driving while impaired by a drug, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a dangerous weapon, which was bear mace.
