WASHINGTON — It’s been one week since three fellow Republicans joined Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Crescent Springs, to sign his discharge petition to force a floor vote on legislation he is co-sponsoring with Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., requiring the Justice Department to release its files in the Jeffrey Epstein case.

The next day, Massie and Khanna hosted a news conference at the U.S. Capitol with women who discussed the abuse they say they suffered by Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in custody awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019.

Republican support for Massie’s petition appears to be stalled for now.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were four Republicans and 212 Democrats on board, for a total of 216 signatures – just shy of the 218 needed.
