CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County leaders are working to prepare residents for major federal changes to both the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid.
This week, officials shared updates on how the new rules could impact local families. Together, about 380,000 residents in Cuyahoga County are on Medicaid and 190,000 receive SNAP benefits.
One of the biggest changes is the expansion of work requirements.
SNAP recipients between ages 55 and 64 will now be required to work.
Parents whose children are all 14 or older must also meet the new work rules.
Exemptions for veterans, homeless individuals and former foster youth are being eliminated, which could affect about 1,500 people in Cuyahoga County.
The changes don’t stop there. About 98,000 people in Cuyahoga County
