GRAND ISLAND, NY — It's been one full week since schools across New York state started locking up students' cell phones during the school year. Channel 2 News heard from students and superintendents on how the new policy is working.

It's the first full week of a new school year in Niagara Falls and Grand Island. And this year, there's something missing in the classrooms and hallways: cell phones.

All school districts now require students to lock up their devices during the school day. In Niagara Falls, students are locking them inside Yondr pouches. Across the river on Grand Island, devices go into wall-mounted cabinets at the start of the day.
