A New Jersey man won a $50,000 Powerball prize thanks to a spontaneous decision during a family visit to Maryland.

The lucky winner was walking in a park with his nephews on Aug. 30 when he decided to purchase a Powerball ticket for that evening’s drawing, which had a jackpot of $950 million.

“You never know,” the man said with a smile when he claimed his prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Monday, according to a statement provided by the lottery.

Though he didn’t win the grand prize, which eventually grew to $1.787 billion for Saturday’s drawing , he matched five out of six numbers to secure the $50,000 prize.
